In 2006 a group of us in Usk
decided to organise a Tapestry for Usk. A
community venture is what we envisage, with as many
people as possible taking part in its creation, from the
fund-raising to the the stitching.
To this end we
were fortunate to obtain a start-up grant and support
from
Monmouthshire Rural Community Action to set the idea in motion.
We were impressed by the
tapestry that people in Abergavenny produced
as a Millennium project. The Abergavenny tapestry took
over 5 years to complete, from the first idea to the last stitch, so
we know we are in this for the
long haul.
However, we don’t envisage the Usk Tapestry being
anything like as big as Abergavenny’s and, obviously, ours will be
entirely different in design, as it will be, literally, THE FABRIC
OF USK.
